ONE VISAYAS, One People, One Destiny

People of Visayas don’t just share the same nominal identity.  Beyond being called “Bisaya” or “Visayan,” they are joined by a cord of culture and arts.

Having this unbreakable commonality, the Regional Development Committee of Regions VI, VII and VIII have seen the vital value of capitalizing culture and arts as a tool for sustainable development.  All the Provinces of Visayas decided to be ONE VISAYAS.

ONE VISAYAS is the biggest culture and arts festival to gather Visayan artists, artisan and craftsmen from the seven art disciplines including cuisine and tourism aspect of each region.  Aiming at mainstreaming their creativity towards pro-active participation in development programs of the government, together with their Local Officials, they will come to share their works, experiences and expertise through performances, interactive exhibits, workshops, and fora to supplement development and appreciation of cultural, artistic, innovative and trendsetting endeavors, and towards the promotion of tourism in Visayas.

With ONE VISAYAS, history will repeat itself.  As Miguel Lopez de Legaspi transferred his seat of governance to Capiz from Cebu in search for food, ONE VISAYAS will be brought to Capiz in a common journey of establishing a strong and united Visayas in search for nourishment for social, cultural and economic well-being through culture and arts.

Capiz, the home of many top caliber artists is a rightful home of second ONE VISAYAS, with the Provincial Government, having an established program for arts and artists development, will be host.  To assure wider participation and create sustainable impact for cohesive development, the Regional Development Committee (RDC) of Region VI headed the Technical Working Group.

In recognition of its highly creative and innovative constituents, the Capiz Provincial Government stresses on creative industry as major source of income.  All forms of art such as music, dance, literature, visual, theatre, cinema, and architecture, as well as craft making and culinary is becoming a more serious business in the country nowadays.  By hosting this festival, the Provincial Government also aims at developing a social consciousness of arts patronage.

ONE VISAYAS is one of the events included in this year’s “TAGBALAY” Program (Hosting of National and International Events) based on the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Development Plan of Capiz Provincial Government through the Provincial Tourism Office.

We are ONE VISAYAS, one people united by culture commits towards one direction – one destiny!
